Notes & Combos
In a game where decks with long combos and huge omni-negate boards have been dominant, it's a breath of fresh air to have a deck with short turns and simple lines be a top contender. Dracotail plays well into Maxx "C" and Mulcharmies while still producing a board of toolbox Traps and Fusions. The Albaz cards add to the ceiling of the deck without compromising its important strengths and gives the deck additional starters. Faimena is a versatile monster that allows dodging of targeted interaction and also Turn 0 plays. The deck is also very good at going 2nd since your Spells double as starters and layered board breakers. Its grind game is also impressive with its recursiion and ease of follow-up access. Overall the deck is simple yet deceptively strong and allows for interactive and rewarding games.
Here's my reasoning for my particular decklist choices:
Why no Spirit + Spheres in the Extra Deck?
- Spheres is a great card in this deck, but the issue is that it requires Spirit in order to access it on Turn 1. Personally, I don't think that additional slot is worth giving up when you can instead make Verte with the same line and for similar payoff for one less monster. Yes, you can technically lock your opponent by summoning Spirit on their field with Spheres -> Albaz -> Albion/Lubellion -> Sanctifire, but I feel that it's such an incredibly "win more" scenario that losing that option isn't much of a loss.
Why Filia Regis and Mysterion?
- These monsters are really strong in the right scenarios. Filia Regis is an incredibly strong targeted banish for both the field and GY, and Mysterion can win games on the spot against decks like Mitsurugi and Orcust. You can't always make them, but the options they allow are definitely worth it for me.
Why Titaniklad?
- Well it's supposed to be used to out Towers monsters like Liger Dancer, but it never came up once on my climb. I'm also now realizing that with my current decklist, I can't actually out Liger since my ATK boost isn't enough to beat over unless I run Nibiru. I'm planning on cutting Titaniklad in favor of Rindbrumm just for the extra utility since we have enough handtraps to beat decks like Lunalight before they make their Towers. However, Titaniklad was the card I included for my run, so that's why it's here. Rindbrumm > Titaniklad imo.
